Man charged for aiding escaped inmate in Walsenburg
HUERFANO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Police have charged a 31-year-old man from Walsenburg after he allegedly helped hide one of the inmates who recently broke out of a Custer County jail.
According to court records, Adam Neil was arrested and charged with aiding escape and accessory to crime for his role in keeping Jerry Williams hidden from law enforcement after he broke out of jail on Jan. 11. Neil is facing four felony charges in total.
Authorities caught Williams on Wednesday after finding him in a crawl space at a house on W. 8th Street in Walsenburg. Williams initially refused to come out, but deputies used pepper spray and got him to surrender.
Williams and another man, Bryan Webb, escaped from Custer County after overpowering a deputy, locking her in a cell and then stealing a minivan. Webb is still on the loose.
We're working on getting more information about Neil's involvement with Williams. According to court records, Neil was found guilty of obstruction of a peace officer and sentenced to probation back in 2013.
Williams was being held on charges of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, illegal possession of a handgun, and domestic violence. Webb was being held on drug charges, introduction of contraband into a detention facility, and assault on a peace officer, according to the Custer County Sheriff's Office. Williams will likely face additional charges for the escape.
Police say the investigation is still ongoing into who helped Williams after the escape, and more arrests are possible.
A mugshot of Neil hasn't been made available yet. His bond was set at $100,000.
