Shooting Victim, Suspect Had Been Friends

Police have identified the victim in a deadly shooting near Academy Boulevard and Galley Road as 22-year-old Joshua Bueno.

Bueno, whose family said was engaged and the father of two boys, was killed Thursday after witnesses said he and another man got in a car chase and more than a dozen shots were fired.

On Friday morning, investigators arrested 23-year-old Erik Camacho, of Colorado Springs on suspicion of first-degree murder. He’s being held without bond.

Those who knew Bueno told KRDO Newschannel 13 that he and Camacho both attended Mesa Ridge High School and that they had been friends.

“The only thing I knew about (Camacho) is he was a one-time good friend and that they had a falling out some time in high school or after,” said Sara Simpson, a friend of Bueno.

Simpson grew up with Bueno in Widefield. She said she and others who knew him still aren’t sure what happened Thursday, they just know they lost a great friend.

“Josh was a very happy person, very funny, very loving,” said Simpson. “One of the best friends you could possibly have.”

Bueno was apparently shot while he was driving and police found him dead from a gunshot wound after his car crashed into a tree outside a car wash near Academy Boulevard and Uintah Street.
