Man tries to rob dollar store, buys candy bar

Colorado Springs Police investigated an attempted robbery at a north side dollar store Thursday.

The crime happened at the Dollar Tree in the 2400 block of N. Union Blvd. and was reported at 11:26 a.m.

Police say a man bought a Snickers bar and demanded the money out of the cash register when the clerk opened it to complete the sale.

The clerk then slammed the register closed. The man then asked for the change for his candy bar, which he was given. He then left.

Police say the man mentioned having a gun to the clerk, but none was seen.

The man was in his 40s and wearing glasses with a lot of tape on them. He was also wearing a shirt with a photo of Tupac and the words “thug life” written on it.
