Ronald McDonald House of Southern Colorado gets big donation from Scheels

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., (KRDO)- The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado received a $50,000 donation, 10-year commitment from Scheels Friday morning.

"The biggest thing we are looking for are organizations that make an impact in the Colorado Springs community," said Cory Tweden, the store manager at Scheels in Colorado Springs.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado fits that description, providing shelter, meals, and shuttle rides to families who need it most.

"None of them are ever given a bill for staying here and they stay here as long as their child is receiving treatment or is hospitalized," added Sam Milam with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado.

During the pandemic, the organization welcomed more than 500 families into their doors and even placed some families at hotels due to COVID-19 restrictions.

"Our cost typically runs around $50 per night to house a family, so a donation like this will go a long way to ensure that critically ill kids and their families will be together when they need it most," added Milam.

For 35 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado has provided shelter and comfort for families who come to Colorado Springs seeking specialized medical treatment for their severely ill children.
