Colorado activists urge Medicaid hike in virus relief bill

DENVER (AP) - Colorado activists have called on the state's U.S. senators to seek additional federal money for its Medicaid program ahead of the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The federal government funds more than half of Colorado's Medicaid program, which serves low-income and disabled Americans.

Healthcare groups say more is needed. The Colorado Consumer Health Initiative estimates Medicaid enrollment in the state will grow 42% by December 2020.

One in five Colorado residents depends on the state's $9 billion Medicaid program. A healthcare group wants the federal government to fund 64% of the program.
