3 children nearly drown at Colorado Springs apartment complex

UPDATE: We have learned one of the children has died from injuries after falling into a swimming pool and nearly drowning. Officials say the five-year-old died at the hospital. The other two children are said to be okay.

Colorado Springs police say they’re investigating after several children nearly died in a pool Sunday at an apartment complex in the southeast side of the city.

Police say three children under the age of 6 nearly drowned before someone pulled them out of the pool. One child is in critical condition, the other two were reported in serious condition.

We spoke to the family who tells us the parents of the children do not live at the complex, but the grandparents do. They did not say if the children were being watched when the incident happened.

The department posted on Twitter that the incident happened at about 5:20 p.m. near the 3100 block of E. Fountain Blvd.

We’ll update this article when more information is available.
