Police search for three suspects after deadly shooting in Denver

DENVER (KRDO) -- Police are searching for three suspects after a shooting that left one person killed and five others hurt in Denver Tuesday afternoon, according to 9NEWS.

Denver Police Department said the shooting happened in the area of Verbena Street and East Colfax Avenue.

The shooting was being investigated in the 1400 block of Verbena Street, police said. A man was found dead at the scene, and two women and three men were transported to the hospital.

Police said three victims were in critical condition and the two others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting looked to be around the Micheal Discount Store at 8332 E. Colfax Ave.

Police received a "shot spotter" alert notifying them that several rounds had been fired in the 1400 block of Verbena, just after 1:50 p.m. After, many 911 calls were made reporting several victims had been shot, according to police.

During the investigation, investigators said they believe three suspects in a vehicle stopped north on Verbena, exited the car, and fired several rounds at the victims who were standing on the curb near the intersection of Verbena and Colfax.

A motel worker, Alize Adams was one block down from where the shooting took place. Adams said she could hear gunshots from her office.

Adams said she was concerned for her occupants.

“Everybody is pretty much like family around here," she said. “Usually my tenants come up and down this road."

Jack Jacka, an occupant staying at Orlando Apartments nearby, has resided in the area for almost 10 years.

"Definitely didn’t sound like nail guns from the construction across the street," he said

Police said there was no apparent conflict between the suspects and victims before the incident.

The suspects abandoned the car after it went east on Colfax after the shooting. They got into a dark-colored unknown vehicle near the intersection of 12th Avenue and Yosemite Street. It's unclear if the vehicle belongs to one of the suspects or is stolen, police said.

If you know any information about the vehicle below, you're asked to call 720-913-7867.
