Yoder mom allegedly strangled newborn before burying her in backyard

YODER, Colo. (KRDO) -- New court documents reveal disturbing details about the 19-year-old Yoder woman facing first-degree murder charges for the death of her newborn baby. Amy Grace Carr is accused of strangling her baby right after delivering her back in January of 2020, then burying the child face-up just outside her home.

When Carr went to bury the child, the ground was too frozen to bury her very deeply. Carr's parents found the child less than a week after she died and immediately called 911, they told deputies they didn't know of anyone in the area who was pregnant.

Carr's mother said neither of her daughters who lived at the home was sexually active.

Carr initially denied knowing anything about the baby when police questioned her. Eventually, she admitted that it had been her child, but it was stillborn.

Carr's internet history tells a different story.

When she would've been around six months pregnant, she typed "How much alcohol is needed to harm a fetus" into Google.

A month and a half before giving birth, her Amazon account shows she ordered a waist trainer -- a restrictive garment that can harm a growing baby.

On Carr's Facebook account, detectives found she had deleted conversations with the baby's father. She initially told detectives she met the man when he was a customer at the McDonald's where she used to work. She eventually admitted to having a sexual relationship with him. His name is redacted from court documents.

The deleted Facebook messages show Carr speaking to the baby's father about how she deleted their messages but thinks police might be able to "undelete" them. Police swabbed both Carr and the baby's father to confirm they are the parents of the baby who was killed.

It took months for detectives to receive records from Snapchat, but when they received them in June, they detailed the night Carr gave birth.

On January 17, 2021, Carr tells the baby's father that she's in labor. In the early hours of January 18, 2021, Carr sends messages like, "I hope no one finds it." The father sends a message saying, "I'm surprised it was alive and not stillborn." Carr responds with, "Seriously me too. And how long I had to strangle it before it even stopped breathing... Strong lil' girl."

The messages go on to detail that Carr didn't want kids, and that she felt bad about what she had done.

Carr is facing charges of first-degree murder and tampering with a deceased human body. The baby's father has yet to be charged.

Carr is expected to be in court on June 15, 2021. KRDO will be in the courtroom to bring you the very latest.
