Proposed CO bill would ban sale of flavored nicotine products
DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- A new bill introduced to the Colorado state legislature would prohibit the sale of all flavored nicotine products.
The ban would encompass any nicotine or tobacco product designed to have a flavor other than tobacco, including flavored cigarettes and flavored e-cigarettes.
Back in January, the Trump administration announced a nationwide ban on most flavors for cartridge-based e-cigarettes, such as Juul pods. The proposed Colorado bill, however, would expand that ban to include refillable open tank systems -- such as those requiring 'vape juice.'
Concerns for public health and safety were a driving force behind the bill's sponsorship.
The bill, HB 20-1319, reads in part:
"The general assembly hereby finds, determines, and declares that this act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety."
HB 20-1319 is sponsored in the House by Caraveo (D) and Becker (D), and in the state Senate by Fields (D) and Priola (R). To read the full proposal, see here.
