Foothills Elementary School finished up a recent book drive that broke a new record.

Students at Foothills collected more than 2,200 books for a local charity called More Books In Children's Hands. The books are a new record coming from any book drive for the organization.

More Books In Children's Hands provides free books for kids in under-served preschools, daycares, and kindergarten classes.

The organization was founded in honor of Debbie Leivers. She was a longtime Academy D20 elementary school teacher. Her granddaughter, Maggie, now attends Foothills Elementary.

Grade levels at Foothills competed against one another. The third-grade class won, bringing in 629 books.
