The School Buzz: Silver medalist kicks off ‘Reading Olympics’ at D20 school

Colorado Springs may be Olympic City USA. But one local school kicked off this year’s Reading Olympics in style as well.

Olympic silver medalist Chris Mazdzer got students all hyped up to read over at Academy International Elementary School in D20 for their "opening ceremony."

Mazdzer is a four-time Olympic luger and a TrueSport athlete ambassador. He had a lot of fun with the kids at Academy International, encouraging all the kids to join the school’s goal to read over 150,000 minutes collectively over a two-week period.

The school has held the Reading Olympics in previous years, but this year was extra momentous because this was also the first all-school assembly after two years of remote learning.
