Colorado drivers still among worst in the US
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- It's been two years since we reported on a study that found drivers in Colorado Springs and Denver are among the worst in the country, and we've got some good news and bad news.
The good news: Denver and Colorado Springs have moved down in rank on the list of bad drivers by city. The bad news is the state as a whole moved way up in ranking compared to other states.
According to QuoteWizard, which is the same site that conducted the 2019 survey, Denver is the 13th worst city in the country for bad drivers and Colorado Springs is 21st. In 2019, Denver ranked 8th and the Springs came in at 16th.
But it's not just the city slickers; the tire kickers in rural areas clearly aren't any better -- the state ranked third in the whole country for worst drivers. Colorado took the No. 8 spot in 2019.
So how did QuoteWizard figure out these rankings? It's based on driver quality from the 70 largest cities in America using millions of insurance quotes. QuoteWizard took data from those quotes to rank rates of incidents including accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, and citations.
According to QuoteWizard, Denver and the Springs both ranked in the top 15 for DUIs, while Denver has noticeably more accidents than the Springs.
And for a slight bit of vindication for the Texans and Californians who will most likely be blamed for Colorado's rise in road woes: California ranked number 14 while Texas was listed at number 46.
