Study: Denver, Colorado Springs drivers rank among worst in U.S.

A new study aimed at ranking U.S. cities with the best and worst drivers found out what everyone driving in Colorado already knew: Denver and Colorado Springs drivers are pretty bad.

The list was put together by QuoteWizard, which based the rankings of 75 cities on four factors: accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, and citations (such as running a red light, using a cell phone while driving, etc.)

Based on those factors, Colorado Springs drivers came in at the 16th worst in the country. Denver cracked the not-Top 10 at 8th worst drivers in the country.

Last June, Allstate Insurance put out a report that said the Springs had the 13th best drivers in the country. That study, which was largely based on reported collisions, received harsh criticism from locals on social media when it was reported. We didn’t publish a story based on that report.

Before people on the Western Slope start bragging, QuoteWizard also found that Colorado ranks the 8th worst drivers out of all 50 states.

QuoteWizard says the cities with the best drivers are Detroit, Michigan; Louisville, Kentucky; and Chicago. The absolute worst are in Portland, Oregon; and Boise, Idaho.
