Colorado Springs worship leader, contestant on American Idol
DeWayne Crocker, Jr., has had a secret for several months.
And Sunday, March 1st, that secret will finally be revealed on the national stage.
It was last year, Crocker's vocal talent was discovered online by a scout from American Idol.
"They invited me to audition," smiles Crocker. When the Idol auditions rolled through Colorado Springs last September, he took advantage of the invitation. After his audition, the feedback was positive.
"They looked at us and said, 'Y'all are the best we've heard all day!'"
Being on stage is a weekly occurance for Crocker: he's a worship leader at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Colorado Springs.
"I give him all the glory for it. Every accomplishment, every success and every failure. God has definitely led me through it all. And, when I say God is good, God is good."
Of course, Crocker can't divulge any details about what came of his audition, despite his friends and family -- and reporters -- asking.
"It's been really hard! Everybody's like, 'DeWayne, what are you up to? What are you doing besides church, besides being a worship leader?' And I'm like, you gotta wait to find out!"
You can catch Crocker's appearance on American Idol this Sunday at 7 p.m. on KRDO 13.
