Pueblo Police identify suspect arrested after hours-long standoff Monday

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) - One person was taken into custody after an hours-long standoff at Motel 6 in Pueblo Monday.
Just after 9:30 a.m. Monday morning, the Pueblo Police Dept. (PPD) located a vehicle involved in a menacing case parked at a hotel. Police determined the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Zackary Ortega, had parked at an adjacent hotel, and walked into a room at Motel 6, according to Pueblo Police.
The PPD claims that when officers attempted to contact Ortega, he refused to exit the room. Investigators said Ortega had three felony warrants for Contempt-Robbery, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender(POWPO), and Motor Vehicle Theft.
Later, a tactical services call was activated to include SWAT and Crisis Negotiators. While negotiators attempted to talk Ortega out of the hotel room, a partial evacuation of the hotel was done for everyone’s safety, according to Pueblo Police.
The PPD says Ortega gained access to additional rooms in one wing of the hotel by accessing the attic. He then refused to exit the attic and moved between several rooms. He eventually surrendered just before 4 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Ortega was booked into the Pueblo County Jail and is facing additional charges related to the incident Monday.
