Potential measles exposure in Denver and Steamboat Springs

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is alerting the public to potential measles exposure locations in Denver and Steamboat Springs after a confirmed case in an unvaccinated out-of-state visitor.

CDPHE provided the following known exposure locations and says anyone who visited the locations at the listed dates and times may have been exposed to measles.

Health officials say monitor for symptoms for 21 days after exposure, which may begin with a fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes, followed by a rash that can start several days later on the face and spread down the body.

According to CDPHE, monitoring for symptoms is critical for those who have not received the MMR vaccine and for infants who have not reached the age for routine MMR vaccination. Health officials note that those without the vaccine can get it within 72 hours of exposure to help prevent illness.

The CDPHE encourages those with symptoms to call their provider for medical guidance and report symptoms to their local public health agency or CDPHE (720-653-3369).

Health officials say those who think they have measles should call their healthcare provider, urgent care, or emergency department before going in, and tell them you may have been exposed to measles.
