Remains found near Skyline Drive identified as missing man

CANON CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Human remains found by hikers near Skyline Drive on July 19 have been identified as Shawn Michael Dixon Sr., who went missing in 2023, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

CBI says Dixon Sr. was last seen and heard from in September of 2023 around 7 p.m. as he was getting out of a taxi near Rudd Park. According to CBI, he was supposed to meet his family later that evening at Triangle Park but did not arrive.

KRDO13 spoke with Dixon Sr.'s sister when the investigation into his disappearance was first conducted in 2024. At the time, Sarah Baca said she was hopeful someone knew where Dixon Sr. was.

The CBI is now taking the lead in the active death investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 719-275-STOP (7867).
