EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man has been arrested after a violent interaction with law enforcement in El Paso County.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO), deputies responded to call around 7:30 p.m. on July 4 about a man threatening someone with a handgun. EPSO responded to the call in the 8500 block of Aspenglow Lane in the Cascade area.

The suspect had been identified as 51-year-old Garrett Duffy, who had fled the scene after firing several shots, according to officials. The victim told EPSO that Duffy had most likely gone near South Willow Street in Woodland Park.

EPSO says members of the Woodland Park Police and Fire Departments helped respond to the call.

Deputies located Duffy and tried to make contact, at which point he came outside with a hunting rifle. He refused commands to drop the weapon and instead approached law enforcement while swinging the rifle, according to EPSO.

Eventually, Duffy dropped the rifle and a second handgun, but continued to advance towards deputies. Duffy tried to disarm a deputy while a physical struggle was happening, law enforcement says.

Eventually, Duffy was placed into custody. EPSO says he was taken to a local hospital before being booked into the El Paso County Jail with charges of menacing with a real or simulated weapon, resisting arrest and second-degree assault.

Duffy has been released on a $10,000 bond, according to officials.
