The fire was recently at 50% containment, but Fort Carson officials say the fire has now started to move east, with dry conditions proving to be a challenge.

A federal government website dedicated to tracking wildfires estimates the acreage at over 600 acres.

CDOT confirms that Highway 115 is closed in both directions, saying that visibility is "impassable" on the highway. A Fort Carson official tells KRDO13 that Highway 115, from mile marker 22 to mile marker 28, is unlikely to reopen on Thursday.

Smoke from the fire has now become visible in Colorado Springs. First responders confirm that there are no active fires within city limits.

No evacuation orders have been given. No one is hurt, and no structures have been damaged, according to Fort Carson.

Fort Carson confirmed to KRDO13 that the fire started on the highway, but has since spread and is now burning on Fort Carson.

The fire is currently burning in heavy fuels and producing a large column of smoke with visible, large flames, according to Fremont County Emergency Management.
