"It's not a one-person event tonight. The community vigil and it's an outpouring of support from all walks of life, all parts of the community coming together to show the respects to the victims," Custer County Sheriff Rich Smith said.
One of the people who spoke Wednesday night was L.P.C. Crystal Rothrock. She spoke in remembrance of victim Beth Geers, a friend that she met shortly after moving to the community.
"I think it's important for all victims to be remembered and every person who lost their life in that tragedy was a critical member of our community," Rothrock said.
