Suspect in custody after driving vehicle into Pueblo Mall; scene cleared

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) - The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) responded to the Pueblo Mall for a vehicle that crashed into the food court Tuesday afternoon.

Police were directing people away from the JCPenny area and evacuated the building for several hours.

Video taken at the scene showed the suspect was taken into custody shortly after driving into the mall's food court.

PPD said a bomb squad from Colorado Springs responded and swept the building and vehicle for a potential device. This was due to the suspect making statements that there was "a bomb in the car" when police made contact with him.

According to PPD, the suspect has not yet given a reason for wanting to cause harm to people.
