Pueblo District 60 unveils new building for Sunset Park Elementary

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - This semester, students at Sunset Park Elementary School will be moving into a brand-new building. Thursday, Aug. 10, Pueblo District 60 held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new school.

"To have a solid school that you don't have to put a lot of money into fixing you know years to come, that has the technology the air conditioning, ventilation systems, heating, state of the art technology in every classroom I think it will be a source of pride," said John Hull, Principal at Sunset Park Elementary. 

This new build is part of a district initiative to expand and modify the education for students who live on the south side of Pueblo.

"We will have our kindergarteners in here on Monday," said Hull, "And then it's all hands on deck Tuesday for all of our kids it will be their first day of school."

When asked about the impact that the new building will have, Hull said, "I think it may help bring teachers into our community to know they may have the opportunity to work in a building like this."

According to Hull, more than 400 kids are enrolled at Sunset Park. He said the school has more than enough teachers to accommodate the students.

"We are fully staffed as it stands today, we may even be gaining a teacher based on the numbers," said Hull.

On Friday, August 11, D60 will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the reopening of the Franklin School of Innovation, which also received a new building.
