COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - A 19-year-old driver faces a Vehicular Homicide charge after being involved in a deadly crash over the weekend.

On July 29, officers were dispatched to a two-car traffic crash at the intersection of E. Fountain Blvd. and Jetwing Dr. at 12:07 a.m.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, a vehicle was traveling westbound on E. Fountain Blvd. The driver ran a red light and ended up hitting a southbound vehicle on Jetwing Dr.

First responders determined one of the drivers died at the scene. The victim was identified as 28-year-old Amanda Trujillo.

The westbound driver who ran the red light, 19-year-old Luke Johnson, was arrested and booked at the El Paso Criminal Justice Center for Vehicular Homicide and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. CSPD said detectives learned Johnson was seen driving fast without any headlights on before the crash. Alcohol and speed are considered contributing factors in the investigation.

According to CSPD, this is the 27th fatal traffic crash in Colorado Springs so far in 2023. At this time last year, there were 26 fatal traffic crashes.
