PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) - Pueblo Police responded to two separate homicides late Wednesday night. Now, the family of one of the victims is sharing their story.
The first crime happened around 8:19 p.m. on the city's west side. Neighbors called to report gunshots fired in the area of Lambert Ave. & W 17th Street.
At the scene, officers found one man outside on the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Police said the victim did die at the scene.
The family confirmed with KRDO the victim was 25-year-old Marcos Antonio Colunga-Gaona.
Marcos' mom, Rosemarie Gaona, said he was a loving, compassionate, and funny man who did anything to make anyone smile.
Rosemarie said she's heartbroken that her son died in this violent way.
"I told the detectives today 'I want you to find the person who did this. I want them brought to justice. I want justice for Marcos because he didn't deserve this," said Rosemarie.
She said her son did struggle with drugs and depression, but that he was clean for the last two weeks.
"I never heard my mom scream the way that she did," said Marcos's sister, Samantha Gaona.
Samantha said her brother told her he was scared of an unknown person who accused Marcos of stealing from them.
As of Thursday evening, no suspect has been taken into custody for his death.
The Pueblo Police Department did say it's actively investigating leads.
The family has set up a go-fund-me to help with funeral costs.
