Colorado Springs Mayor Suthers already transitioning Yemi Mobolade into office

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Just about 12 hours after the first batch of ballots were counted Tuesday night, Mayor John Suthers was already meeting with mayor-elect Yemi Mobolade to begin his transition into office.

At 8 a.m. Wednesday the mayor and mayor-elect attended a cabinet meeting together and Mayor Suthers handed over lots of material to Mobolade to help him transition. Mayor Suthers also gave some words of advice to the new mayor-elect.

"I told him to transition as quickly as possible from the campaign mode into governance mode," Suthers said. "Campaign mode is, quite frankly, you're trying to be all things for all people. Governance mode, you have to start making some tough decisions pretty quick."

Suthers also emphasized he would do everything in his power to make it a successful and smooth transition for Mobolade.

Another piece of advice he handed over was to watch out for people looking to be Mobolade's friends, get a job, or get city money.

The transition was already in process for the last couple of weeks but Suthers said things will get more intensive now since Mobolade has won.
