Atrevida Beer Co. celebrating its 5th anniversary on Cinco de Mayo with drag show performance
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The owners of Atrevida Beer Co. are celebrating the brewery's five-year anniversary. This year's celebration also comes with an additional purpose, to spread love.
One of the brewery's owners, Richard Fierro, is credited with being one of the two men who stopped the suspected shooter in the November 2022 mass shooting.
Now, months later, Richard and his wife Jess are hosting a Cinco de Mayo celebration to remind folks to spread the love and help their fellow survivors.
On top of hosting a celebration with delicious Mexican food and drinks, the Fierros invited drag show performer Wyatt Kent, a fellow survivor of the Club Q mass shooting.
"He's a great performer," said Richard. "Potted Plant is just amazing it's the reason why we were enjoying ourselves that evening, he's awesome."
Since the shooting, Richard said he and his family have received an outpouring of support and love from people around town.
"This community it's small but we have big hearts, Colorado Springs came together and I still think everyone is still thinking about it, I still go to Costco and people say hello and they know what event we were tied to that said it's not something I want people to forget," said Fierro.
He told KRDO he hopes to spread the love he's received during Friday's celebration.
"We will have Mariachi, Baile Folklorico, tacos," said Richard. "We are excited, we are going to have everything here and folks can just enjoy it from all walks of life. It will be great."
"We do not in any way forget or minimize what happened. I think everybody who has been a part of or was part of that event has come through here at some point and they understand that we are not trying to take advantage of that at all," added Fierro.
Atrevida's five-year anniversary celebration happens Friday, May 5. It begins at 2 p.m. and is expected to run until about 10 p.m.
