Man watches on doorbell security camera as firefighters protect his home from 403 Fire
TELLER COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Eric Klopfestein and his family are just one of many who were forced from their homes Thursday afternoon due to the 403 Fire.
Eric was in Colorado Springs when the first pre-evacuation notice went out and it was actually his boss who told him he needed to leave.
Luckily, Eric had a camper that he and his family could stay in away from the fire. They packed up their essentials and got out.
While away, Eric checked his doorbell camera and watched as firefighters moved valuables away from his home, including his young daughter's bike.
"At that point, it was pretty scary because there was a lot of ash in the video. She was having a tough time with it," Eric said.
Eric and his family had been under pre-evacuation orders before but had never had anything this close to home.
“I was thinking my house was going to burn down. With the amount of ash that was in the Ring doorbell. I mean you could actually see it — it looked like it was snowing at my house. So I — I thought that was it.”
Eric went back Friday with a deputy escort to get a few essentials they had left behind, including his wife's wedding ring.
