Purple Mountain Recovery reopens its doors after Club Q shooting in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Colorado Springs mental health clinic specializing in helping the LGBTQ+ community is reopening after a three-month closure.

Purple Mountain Recovery focuses on bringing people together and helping those who struggle with mental health conditions and substance abuse.

The organization closed its doors in solidarity with the victims and survivors of the Club Q mass shooting. Founder Scott Mosher Ramírez said in the aftermath of the tragedy, he and his staff needed a break.

Ramírez explained the organization still receives hate mail every once in a while, but it's time to reopen.

"We still get that hate with different posts and whatnot, but we just don't let it stop us," said Ramírez.

Not only is Purple Mountain Recovery reopening, but it's also moving to an entirely new location.

"Finally be open to give people the space in our community to be themselves and get the help they need," said Ramírez.

"We offer peer support, for people with mental health, substance abuse, or both or that are in recovery or trying to get into recovery," said Ramírez.

The non-profit is currently renovating the new clinic adding artwork to its walls. Even with the ongoing renovations, Ramírez said he and his staff are already taking appointments.

Ramírez said a place like Purple Mountain Recovery was a dream of his mother's, a place where he and others like him could go for help. He said it's amazing to have created that spot for people now.

The new location here on Citadel Drive is open and accepting new clients.
