Dash camera footage captures Pueblo hit-and-run crash into a Domino’s delivery vehicle

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Saturday, Ramon Valdez was on his way to make a delivery for his job at Domino's Pizza. He had just pulled to a stop at the intersection of Highway 50 and Fortino Boulevard in Pueblo he was hit head-on.

In the dashcam footage obtained by KRDO, a red GMC Terrain is seen turning left into his Valdez, backing up, then going around Valdez and driving away into oncoming traffic.

Valdez filed a police report Monday. He's asking police to investigate the hit-and-run crash and find the driver responsible.

"His eyes went wide and I was straight on in eye contact with him, and we were looking at each other," explained Valdez. "I thought he was going to pull up to my passenger side, and he just took off."

Valdez said he always has his dash camera on when he's working.

In the footage from Saturday, the driver of the red SUV appears to be on the phone with one hand lifted to their right ear, making a left turn onto Morris Avenue. The driver makes a sharp turn, hitting the right side of Valdez's car as he sat at the light.

Footage shows the driver quickly bringing his hand down, pausing for two seconds, and then slowly reversing and driving southbound on northbound lanes along Fortino.

Valdez said witnesses to the collision jumped out of their cars to make sure he was okay and safe. Valdez said that only cosmetic damage was done to his car, but he is still hoping for accountability.

Various witnesses sent pictures to Valdez of the car's license plate, which Valdez turned over to Pueblo police.

"In all honesty, if he would have just pulled over and talked to me, we probably could have just talked about the situation," said Valdez. "But it made it a lot harder now that he left the scene."

The Pueblo Police Department told KRDO they're working on assigning an investigator to the case.

They are encouraging anyone with information about the crash or the driver to call their non-emergency line at 719-553-2502.
