City breaks down the allocation of Pueblo Public Safety Tax for 2023 if passed

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- On November 8, Pueblo voters will decide whether or not to approve a Public Safety tax that funds law enforcement and its resources.

Ahead of the vote, the city released its 2023 budget and detailed how the money would be spent. According to our news partners at The Pueblo Chieftain, the tax would bring in roughly $5 million.

Of that, $2.2 million would go toward 20 officers and four sergeants. Breaking down that number, $1.9 million is budgeted for personnel, and $300,000 is allocated for overtime pay.

According to the budget, the salary range for sergeants who are paid from the tax is between $96,462 and $100,701. For officers, it's between $52,138 and $82,797.

The Chieftain, reports another piece of the budget goes into a general fund. Mayor Gradisar said it pays for a software program the Pueblo Police Department uses. The price tag for that is right under $71,000.
