Officer and second victim identified in Alamosa shooting

ALAMOSA, Colo. (KRDO) -- On October 27th, the Alamosa Police Department (APD) responded to a disturbance within the 1200 block of Denver Avenue which resulted in an Alamosa Police Officer and a citizen being shot.

The APD says that two juvenile suspects were arrested at the time of the incident and remain in custody.

According to the APD, the officer is Mollee Heeney, a two-year veteran of the Alamosa Police Department. Officer Heeney has undergone surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

The citizen who was shot has been identified by the APD as Ricardo Rangel, a 41-year-old male. Rangel has undergone surgery and is in stable condition.

The Department says that they have received calls from residents wishing to send cards or other items of support for Officer Heeney. Any items can be sent to the Alamosa Police Department at 425 4th Street and will be given to Officer Heeney once she returns home.

The investigation remains ongoing by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Alamosa Police Department, and any charging decisions regarding the juveniles will be handled by the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
