Juvenile one of two suspects in shooting that injured an Alamosa police officer and a resident
ALAMOSA, Colo. (KRDO) -- Friday, the Alamosa Police Department (APD) provided an update on a shooting that left an officer and a resident injured.
Thursday at 4:10 p.m., officers responded to reports of a fight in the 1200 block of Denver Ave. in Alamosa. Chief of Police Ken Anderson said almost immediately after responding to the scene, a suspect pulled out a handgun and shot an officer twice.
According to Anderson, the officer, who hasn't been identified but is a woman, was flown to a Front Range hospital for her injuries.
Investigators also found a second victim, a 41-year-old Almosa resident. He was shot multiple times. APD said he was also flown to a Front Range hospital. As of Friday morning, he was in critical condition.
When asked about the officer's condition, Anderson said he couldn't say the extent of her injuries, but said she was in stable condition and communicating.
Two suspects, one of which is a juvenile, were taken into custody. Police couldn't confirm if the second suspect was also a suspect.
During the press conference, Anderson said they're early into the investigation and will release more information when they can.
According to Anderson, he hasn't dealt with an officer being shot in the 22 years he's been with the department.
According to 12th Judicial District Attorney Anne Kelly, multiple law enforcement agencies worked together to respond to calls Thursday night while the police department focused on the shooting.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has been called in and will be investigating the shooting.
Anderson asks the community to send their support to the officer and the victim's families.
