PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Two Pueblo high schools are preparing to compete Friday evening in a decades-long rivalry.

On Sept. 23, the South High Colts and East High Eagles will take the field to compete for the iconic cannon at Dutch Clark.

The rivalry has a long history starting before the cannon was even thought of.

The cannon is currently in the hands of the Colts. However, if the Eagles win, they'll take it and repaint it back to reflect their school colors.

Pregame festivities started on Thursday with pep rallies at both schools.

The Key Clubs also joined for a friendly rival luncheon Thursday ahead of tailgates at each school.
