COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- An active duty U.S. Army member accidentally shot his friend, also a member of the Army, while intoxicated early Saturday morning, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

CSPD said they responded to the 2500 block of Bellamy Street, near South Academy and Astrozon, for the report of a shooting just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

On scene, police said they were told several conflicting stories about what happened, one being that there was a drive-by shooting and the victim was hit.

Police then learned the active duty service member was handling a loaded gun while intoxicated when it discharged in his hand and hit the victim. The victim sustained minor injuries.

CSPD said the Army chain of command was notified and the person who fired the gun was served and released.
