Aurora Theater Shooting survivors reflect on the tragedy ten years later and remember the victims
AURORA, Colo. (KRDO) -- Wednesday marks a decade since the deadly Aurora movie theatre shooting that rocked a community.
On July 20, 2012, 12 lives were lost at a Century 16 when a man entered a theater during a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises."
Now, ten years later, survivors reflect on that horrific night and spoke about how they're looking forward to recovery.
Paula Adams was there that night and said even though nothing like that has happened again in her town, she still feels the pain.
"You've never seen anything really like this around here. Of course, there hasn't been nothing like this to happen."
The common thread that many survivors talk about is the strength shown by the community at large.
"The strength that people pull together, even people who have lost people in the shooting, people that weren't even involved, the strength, actually, the world for this, makes me feel like there is strength out there," Adams said.
The deadly shooting impacted each person involved differently and touched so many more lives than just those inside the four walls of the theatre that night. Loved ones, first responders, and family members all have lasting trauma too.
Though 10 years have passed, remembering and honoring the victims and their loved ones is as important as ever.
