Colorado Springs Police: arrests made in fentanyl bust, nearly 150 pills recovered

MGN

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested two suspects on July 13, 2022. Both suspects had outstanding felony arrest warrants.

The suspect's names have not been released at this time.

The suspects had a history of eluding police in larger 4x4 vehicles, driving recklessly, and putting citizens in great jeopardy.

Vice, Narcotic, and Intelligence (VNI) units from CSPD located the two suspects in the 800 block of North Academy.

According to CSPD, the suspects were in a 4x4 truck with no plates and appeared to be setting up to deal fentanyl pills around the nearby hotels. VNI directed officers with the Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) into the area. As TEU officers moved in to arrest the suspects, one of the suspects attempted to push a TEU vehicle to flee with the truck. The TEU vehicle made positive contact with the truck’s front bumper and pushed the truck backward into a tree, effectively pinning the truck in place.

The suspects attempted to accelerate the vehicle to leave but, were unsuccessful. Both suspects surrendered and were taken into custody by the TEU. No suspects or officers were injured, and the suspect's truck received only minor damage to the front bumper, according to CSPD.

CSPD says that VNI cleared three felony warrants, recovered 148 fentanyl pills, and 9.1 grams of methamphetamine. CSPD recovered recently stolen property from a home burglary and identified a suspect involved in six cases of Felony Eluding police officers.

This arrest is part of an ongoing investigation where VNI has developed several leads involving prolific fentanyl distribution in Colorado Springs.
