Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s baby hippo, Omo, is one

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- On July 20, 2021, at Cheyenne Mountian Zoo, a baby Nile hippo, Omo, was born.

Omo was the first hippo to be born at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in 32 years.

Now, a year later, the zoo is celebrating Omo's first birthday.

There will be a birthday party thanks to zoo partners, Children’s Hospital Colorado.

The birthday party was at Water’s Edge, the zoo exhibit where Omo and his family live, on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event included making Omo a birthday card, learning about hippos at a special keeper talk, and watching Omo and his mom, Zambezi, enjoy a special birthday cake.

The zoo is also counted down their top ten favorite "Omo-ments" on Facebook.

Below is a video of Omo plops over the past year, the first of ten favorite "Omo-ments" shared.

Watch below for a recap of Omo's party.
