Canyon in Rocky Mountain National Park closed due to rock fall

ESTES PARK, Colo. (KRDO) -- Significant rockfall has forced park officials to close areas of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Chaos Canyon, located west of Lake Haiyaha, is closed. Park officials say this is due to significant rockfall that started on June 28, 2022.

The rocks slid into Upper Chaos Canyon and made the land unstable. Officials say the expected rain will worsen the issue.

Officials say the area will be closed until the rain passes and the canyon can be evaluated by park geologists.

Lake Haiyaha and the trail heading to it are still open.
