Man turns himself in after he confessed to killing his wife; victim identified
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man turned himself in after he confessed to killing his wife.
On June 24, the El Paso County Communications Center notified the Colorado Springs Police Department Communication Center about a potential homicide victim in a vehicle near the El Paso County Jail.
Police say detectives from the Colorado Springs Police Department Homicide/Assault Unit responded to the scene to take over the investigation.
Police say the El Paso County Sheriff Office Deputies told detectives that 52-year-old David Mitchell entered into the jail to turn himself in after killing his wife.
Deputies responded to the visitor parking lot of the jail and found a woman dead inside a vehicle, according to police.
Police say detectives learned the death happened in an unincorporated area in El Paso County.
During the investigation, detectives from the Colorado Springs Police Department Homicide/Assault Unit found a probable cause to arrest Mitchell for First-Degree Murder.
That same day, Mitchell was booked into the El Paso County Jail.
On Monday, the El Paso County Coroner's Office identified the victim to be 44-year-old Melody Horton from El Paso County.
Horton's death is being investigated as homicide.
