Man arrested Sunday morning in Colorado Springs after jumping on police car, hitting officer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man was arrested Sunday morning in southeast Colorado Springs after hitting an officer in the head during a brief struggle, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Police said it happened around 5:15 a.m. near Academy and Astrozon when an on-duty officer saw a man walking in the middle of Academy, almost getting hit by oncoming traffic. The officer stopped to check on the man and noticed he was under the influence of an unknown substance.

The man climbed onto the police car and struck the officer in the head, CSPD said.

After a brief struggle, Justin McCreight, was arrested. McCreight was booked on charges of second degree assault on a peace officer in addition to an outstanding warrant.

The police officer sustain minor injuries from the assault.
