CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo. (KRDO) -- Wednesday was the official last day of operations for the Cripple Creek Care Center, a skilled nursing facility in Teller County.
The closure means 34 residents were displaced, and 42 staff members are now looking for new jobs. While all the residents have been rehomed as of the closing day, staff said the residents will never be able to rebuild the close-knit relationships they made in the Teller County facility.
Some of the dozens of staff members have already found other jobs at nursing facilities and some have decided to leave nursing all together. One nurse said if she wanted to stay in Cripple Creek her options were extremely limited for a job that fit her skillset well.
Cripple Creek Care Center was one of just two skilled nursing facilities in Teller County and one of 12 that have been closed in Colorado since 2019, according to the Colorado Health Care Association.
