Woodland Park couple steps up to educate locals and tourists on fire safety

TELLER COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Shannon and Carl Andersen are residents of Woodland Park and avid outdoors people. They started a new initiative to educate locals and tourists about current burn restrictions heading into the summer months.

Currently, Teller County is under a stage 2 fire ban with several restrictions including a ban on campfires.

"We have a lot of campers that come out and use our national forests," Shannon said.

The Andersens used their print and packing shop, Andersen Pack N Ship, to print posters with the fire ban rules and post them around town.

They even print blown-up versions of the fire ban posters and put them up at the entrances of the national forests.

Their goal is to keep campers from out-of-state up to date on the rules in case they don't know them.

Fire danger is very real to us and we've already had several close calls to our houses and businesses in Teller County," Carl said.
