Colorado Springs officer gets punched in face following traffic stop, police say

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Colorado Springs officer was punched in the face following a traffic stop, according to Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). The incident resulted in two arrests.

Sunday, the officer pulled over a car at around 3 p.m. after they witnessed the passenger littering in the Briargate area.

During the traffic stop, the officer found out the driver inside the car had an outstanding warrant. As a result, the driver was arrested.

After the officer cited the passenger for littering, the officer offered them a courtesy ride. The passenger accepted the offer. However, as the officer directed the passenger into the patrol vehicle, the passenger laid down and refused to get inside.

Then, officers circled around to pull the passenger into the patrol vehicle.

In response, the passenger punched the officer in the face.

As officers controlled the situation, the passenger was arrested and is now facing charges of Assaulting an Officer.
