Man sentenced to first-degree murder in 2019 Colorado Springs killing

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man who managed to evade law enforcement on numerous occasions was sentenced Tuesday for a 2019 murder.

According to the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office, Randy Bishop was sentenced to life in prison without the option of parole after being found guilty of the first-degree murder of Thomas Faircloth.

Faircloth was found dead in a vacant lot near Galley Rd. and Powers Blvd. on November 2, 2019.

Since 2019, Bishop managed to evade and escape custody multiple times.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, Bishop led officers on a chase that resulted in a crash on November 27, 2019. He was then taken into custody.

However, when officers took him to UCHealth Memorial Hospital, Bishop was able to escape. Before he left the hospital, CSPD says Bishop grabbed an officer's firearm and fired at least one shot before stealing a vehicle from the parking lot and fleeing the scene.

In early January 2020, police say Bishop shot at and injured a CSPD officer who had pulled him over during a traffic stop. He was able to escape that time too.

Finally, on January 26, 2020, authorities announced Bishop was found and taken into custody. According to CSPD, officers tried initiating another traffic stop that led to a brief pursuit. Police say officers used their patrol vehicles to "disable" the vehicle Bishop was driving.

The District Attorney's Office said it had no comment on Tuesday's sentencing because Bishop faces additional charges.
