Shooting in Colorado Springs Saturday leaves one woman dead, suspect at large
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Department is currently investigating a homicide after two people were shot Saturday evening near the Citadel Mall.
CSPD says officers were on a call for service around 5:20 p.m. in the 3600 block of East Galley Road when they heard multiple gunshots nearby.
Officers checked the area and found a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole. Inside of the vehicle, officers found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were both taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to CSPD, the female later succumbed to her injuries. The male was treated and released from the hospital.
Detectives from CSPD's Violent Crimes Homicide/Assault Unit assumed responsibility for the investigation. CSPD says the Coroner's Office will still determine the cause and manner of death, but it is currently being investigated as a homicide.
Detectives suspect a yellow, white, and black dirt bike-style motorcycle fired shots into the victims' vehicle. Detectives have also obtained surveillance video just before the shooting of the suspect, but have not been able to identify additional information.
Several roads were closed Saturday night near the scene for investigation. Galley road was closed between Academy and Chelton.
