Lincoln County Sheriff's Office

LINCOLN COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Lincoln County Sheriff Deputy who was shot during an ambush in May is back in the field.

On May 21, Deputy Michael Hutton responded to reports someone was stealing merchandise out of the back of a semi-truck.

Within seconds of getting out of his patrol car, Capt. Michael Yowell says Hutton was "met with a hail of gunfire."

Hutton was shot multiple times and taken to Swedish Medical Center. After five days in the hospital, he was able to go home.

Now, a little more than three months later, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office welcomed Hutton back to work.

According to the sheriff's office, the suspect was found dead about a thousand yards away in a field from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
