30 years on, looking back at one of Denver’s biggest crimes

DENVER COUNTY (KRDO) -- The Father’s Day armed robberies and murders are one of Denver’s most notorious crimes. It ended with four security guards killed and about $200,000 stolen from the vault of United Bank.

Wednesday marks 30 years since the crime and it remains unsolved, per our Denver partners at 9News.

The United Bank building on Lincoln Street in downtown Denver was closed on June 16, 1991. However, several employees were in the building counting money and working.

A man who posed as a bank vice president made his way into the building around 9 a.m. He was wearing a hat, mustache, and sunglasses.

Over the course of the next hour, that man would kill four unarmed security guards and steal $200,000 from the vault.

While Denver Police arrested a suspect for the robbery, he was found not guilty on all charges in June of 1992.
Today, the crime remains unsolved and none of the money has ever been recovered.
