Man wielding ax arrested by Pueblo Police after spitting on officer

ANTONIO MARQUEZ

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Pueblo man was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly threatening people with an ax and spitting on local law enforcement.

Pueblo Police responded to the 1300 block of E 4th St. after receiving a call from a local business stating a man was possibly threatening and chasing people with an ax.

Police contacted Marquez a short distance away.  The suspect dropped the ax after requests from police, however, Marquez attempted to leave the scene.

When police reached Marquez and placed him in custody, and 56-year old Antonio Marquez became aggressive with the officers.

"Basically he didn't want to go to jail," said Sgt. Franklyn Ortega with the Pueblo Police Department. "He had a warrant at that time so he was going to jail for the warrant. He spit on one of our officers. When they were transporting him to the jail he was kicking the vehicle and causing a raucous.

Marquez was arrested and booked into the Pueblo County Jail on second-degree assault of a police officer.

Police were unable to contact the victim Marquez was allegedly chasing with the ax before the arrest. Due to this, Marquez doesn’t face any charges related to the ax or alleged threats at this time.

Officers that responded to the scene say Marquez was intoxicated at the time of arrest.
