Critics blast NRA for pro-gun Mother’s Day tweet hours after Colorado Springs mass shooting
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Hours after seven people died in a horrific murder-suicide in Colorado Springs, the National Rifle Association posted a pro-firearm message for Mother's Day that many critics called out for the timing.
"Mama didn't raise a victim," the NRA tweeted on Sunday with a picture of a woman and young girl holding guns. "On top of the millions of other jobs moms have, NRA moms fight for our right to self-defense, while also defending themselves, their families, and communities," said the accompanying headline.
However, the message was poorly received after several mothers were slain in an attack at a birthday party early Sunday morning in Colorado Springs' southeast side.
The tweet on NRA's page was quickly ratioed --the post received more replies than "likes," which generally indicates a negative reaction to the post-- and many users retweeted the post to specifically decry the timing of the message.
There was another mass shooting in America today, this time in #ColoradoSprings.

According to CNN, the mass shooting in Colorado Springs was one of at least nine that occurred over the weekend.
Colorado Springs Police haven't publicly said if there was a motive behind Sunday's shooting, but the suspect is believed to be the boyfriend of one of the victims.
