El Cinco De Mayo Inc. still collecting donations, though celebrations canceled for minority scholarships
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - For nearly three decades, El Cinco De Mayo Inc., has dedicated themselves to bringing cultural awareness to Southern Colorado and raising funds for underrepresented students to attend college.
Every Cinco De Mayo, the non-profit organization hosts their El Cinco De Mayo Inc. Fiesta where they usually honor recipients of the scholarship and recognize their sponsors and members.
Due to the pandemic, last year's event was canceled. Still, thanks to individual donations and funds they raised from the previous year, they were able to provide scholarships to nine students in El Paso County.
Beginning Wednesday, the organization will be accepting donations for the 2022-2023 academic year. They look to announce this at the Pikes Peak Community College 'Cinco De Mayo virtual celebration.
This year, the Cinco De Mayo Fiesta was also canceled, but the organization will be replacing this year's fiesta with a festival and car show that will be held on July 17 at Sierra High School, where they hope to raise $30,000 for scholarships.
